Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any unanswered questions, please e-mail

  • How do I use your streaming service without moving my web site over?

We offer dedicated IP service for users who want to use our flash streaming service but who need to keep their existing web site hosted where it's at. You can select the dedicated IP option when placing your order (a small monthly fee applies). Your media streaming account will then be assigned a dedicated IP address (e.g. 123.456.789.123) which you can use instead of a domain name when connecting to your account or streaming your media files. However, you still need to enter a domain name when placing your order so please enter the domain name of the web site which will be using the streaming service.
  • Can I use a custom FLV player instead of the one you offer?

Yes. You can use any FLV player which is capable of streaming. There are some free and some commercial ones available. You can also create your own using Adobe Flash CS3 or Macromedia Dreamweaver. We provide step by step instructions on how you can create your own Flash player using either of these two softwares.
  • I'm using my own custom Flash video player. What is the RTMP path I should specify for streaming my video on demand or live content?

For FLV, MPEG-4, and MP3 media files (they should be uploaded into public_html/flash_stream/vod/media/):
    rtmp://Your_Domain_or_IP_here/vod/media/filename_here

Note: You may need to ommit the file extension (.flv or .mp4) depending on your player.

    For live broadcasts:
    rtmp://Your_Domain_or_IP_here/live/instance_name_here

  • Can I deploy Flash applications or perform server-side scripting using ActionScript?

Yes, however please keep in mind that we will need to setup your account on a server which uses Flash Media Server 2 (instead of Flash Media Server 3). You can select the FMS application deployment option when placing your order. A small monthly fee applies.
  • Are there any hardware or software requirements for using your live streaming service?

Yes. You need to download and install Flash Media Encoder, which is free, from Adobe's web site (download link here). Once installed, you can select any audio or video device connected to your computer (e.g. webcam, digital camera, soundcard, etc) from within Flash Media Encoder and have it streamed to our servers for broadcasting. If you do not plan on using your own Flash player, our EZ Stream Wizard can generate copy and paste HTML code for playing your live stream. You can insert the generated HTML code into any web page you want the live feed broadcasted in.

Tip: As long as you keep using the same 'Stream URL' and 'Stream name' parameters inside Flash Media Encoder, there will be no need to re-generate the HTML code or change anything on the web page broadcasting the live feed.
