You can stream your hosted videos via the RTMP streaming protocol. For this you will need to know the RTMP address to your videos which are:

RTMP address to your MP4 videos

rtmp://YourUserID.mdn.onyxservers.com/vod/media/mp4:My_MP4_Video.mp4

NOTE that .mp4 video filenames need be prepended with "mp4:". If specifying a subdirectory, the "mp4:" tag must preceede the folder name (e.g. mp4:SomeFolder/My_MP4_Video.mp4)

RTMP address to your FLV videos

rtmp://YourUserID.mdn.onyxservers.com/vod/media/My_FLV_Video

The following instructions were prepared using Adobe Captivate v9:

  1. From within Adobe Captivate, Press CRTL+ALT+V to insert a video. You can also click on the 'Media' icon and select 'Video'.

  2. Select the option 'Already deployed to Adobe Media Streaming Service, or Flash Media Server'.

  3. For the 'URL' parameter enter the RTMP address to your video.

  4. Click OK.

    PLEASE NOTE:
If you get the error "Failed to load the video file. The file path or the URL may be invalid. Do you want to change the file path or the URL?", click YES.

Adobe Captivate may also give the warning "Cannot get FLV duration from metadata". Click OK. Your video should work fine despite this warning.

  5. Select the video object inserted into the slide and ensure under object properties 'Video Type' is set to 'Streaming Video' and the 'URI' and 'Name' parameters are set correctly. They should look like this:

    URI: rtmp://YourUserID.mdn.onyxservers.com/vod/media
    Name: mp4:0_sample.mp4

    Adobe Captivate Streaming Video

  6. Select 'Auto Play' if you want playback to start when the page is loaded. Adjust other options such as 'Skin' as desired.

  7. Test out video playback by previewing the slide in your browser (select Preview -> In Browser).

    Adobe Captivate RTMP media

  8. When publishing the project, make sure the option SWF is selected.

    NOTE:
If the video fails to play, the problem may be due to Adobe Flash plugin restrictions (i.e. Adobe Flash may block Flash connections from your local computer to non-local addresses for security reasons). Try uploading the published project online and test it from a web site instead. In addition, if you have enabled Domain Whitelisting in your OnyxServers dashboard, make sure the domain it's uploaded to is in your list of authorized domain names.
